LaGondola Peoria receives mural

It was an impossible coincidence that brought two families to Leonardo’s/LaGondola to share a meal Monday evening, but Joe Caporale, a second-generation Italian immigrant born into the restaurant business, believes in fate and said the stars aligned. When he stumbled upon a LaGondola in Bloomington last year, far from his Chicago area home, Caporale offered the restaurant a stained glass mural of the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, worth $10,000 when his father commissioned it in 1978. Richard LaHood Jr., general manager of LaGondola, found a more appropriate home for it in Peoria.
